Family and Marriage

Approximately 60,000 children are born in Norway every year with a mother having an average of two children. In families, usually three out of four children live with both of their parents. Usually only one in four children live with only one parent.

Marriage in Norway is common thing with couples, with three out of four couples living together being married. Only about 25% of couples that live together are not married. It's also common in Norway for both men and women to wait til their thirty or older to get married.

Recreation and Art

Nature is a big part on the Norwegian national identity. Hiking and skiing and being outside is just as common as breathing to most Norwegians. Cabins also called "hytte" cabins, are natural getaways for more than half the population. Even most of the schools have obligatory ski days.

Edvard Munch was a famous Norwegian painter and with the expressionist movement in modern painting he was also considered a pioneer. The work we was most famous for would have to be the "Scream" painting. After he died in 1944 he donated all of his work to the sity of Oslo. The city in turn built the Munch Museum in 1963 to house all of his works.

Holidays and Customs

Many of the holidays celebrated in Norway are famous holidays such as Christmas and Easter. Probably the most famous "Norwegian" holiday would be their Consitution Day, celebrating the first constitution established on May 17, 1814. The holiday however is mainly focused on the children. Almost all children from kindergarten and elementary school march in parades across the country.

There seems to be many little Norwegian customs that are the norm there. Customs in manners involve not showing too much emotion and keeping calm are virtues in Norway. Norwegians are also very informal when it comes to relationships and even their dress code.
